A visual and sound artist, born and currently living in Belgium

I am a curious and engaged artist, passionate about visual arts and sound. I am fascinated by how people observe and interpret the world, which inspires me to approach projects with an open and reflective mindset. My work explores repetition, rhythm, and patterns that move through time and space, often created intuitively with analog photography and sound recordings, embracing the possibilities, imperfections and different outcomes of these media.

Nature and movement inspire my practice - the act of leaving the city and entering outdoor landscapes influences both my observation and creation.

Collaboration and co-creation with other artists are essential to my process, developing new perspectives and shaping artistic growth.

Conversations with my brother

Analogue prints, collected pictures, drawings, handcrafted objects, video on LCD-flatscreen 22-inch 47:18min, audio 15:56min 2025

A few months ago, I was looking around in my older brother Stijn's room. His room is next to mine in our parents' house. He has a unique way of seeing, thinking and doing. Stijn is 25 and lives in supported housing with his friends. Before he was born, he had a stroke that caused the left hemisphere of his brain to stop functioning and it was surgically deactivated completely. In our society, it is called a disability, but I see this as an unexplored world and stories yet to be told.

He has stacks of documents and many illustrated books on, among other things, the most beautiful cities of Belgium or the greatest natural wonders of the world. Among these many papers, I found drawings. Drawings he used to make but also recent ones. They were full, some completely full, with turbines, cranes, people, suns, clouds, cars driving by... very dynamic and colourful. I also found 5 ring binders in which he keeps a whole collection of printed photos, images from the internet.

Stijn likes routine. Every Friday night, he prints 1 or 2 images, which he carefully selects. He often asks me or others in our family to type a caption on the computer. Usually place descriptions such as turbines of Bekkevoort, cranes at Gasthuisberg, skyline of Paris, London, Burj Khalifa in Dubai, Victoria Falls, Mount Everest...

This is how he categorises his finds, according to his own and precise criteria. When I happened to come across these folders, I made my own selection to get a better overview. I was left with a “well-organised” collection in 1 blue ring binder. I sorted the images as it made sense to me. He went through this binder again and let the new creation exist. This is a spontaneous and visual way of getting into his experience and immersing myself in it. I explore the formal differences in his choices and look for common ground. Through our love for images, looking and experiencing, we find a way to communicate and understand each other better.

For me, the emphasis is on repetition, rhythm, the many patterns that move through time and space: the rotation of turbine blades, cycling, going through the binder and drawings. We both love rhythm.

I really enjoy doing sports, I like to move. Stijn also likes moving, cycling and walking. His way of looking at things appeals to me a lot because it is based on this dynamic observation and ordering.

I installed a working method where the focus is not on disabilities but on dialogue and interaction. For instance, I recorded conversations where he explains his drawings. What he says about the topics that are brought up, remains a surprise. The focus is on our interaction and shows the connection between different parts of the work.

‘In conversation with my brother’ is a reinterpretation of his world and a new way of communicating with each other. Perhaps, after all, both our worlds have much more in common than you might think.

Waarom kijk jij zo naar mij?

Performance 22:49min (due to the circumstances, only the audio could be recorded) 2025

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Together with six fellow students and four imprisoned participants, we created a performance revolving around the theme of dialogue. Through music, movement, and spoken word, we brought our voices and perspectives together into one cohersive piece.

Moments of being heard and understood opposite total chaos. Closeness and distance, silence and sound, a pause to breathe. We explore how connection emerges, what it means to be alone amidst others, and how a look or a sound can open a story. Together, we create a space where different voices and perspectives meet.

Did the camera already click?

Silver gelatin prints, RC-prints and analogue colour prints in varioius sizes, video on LCD-flatscreen 22-inch 10x10s 2024

Using the self-timer, I explore the shift in control between the artist-self and the camera-self. Repetition and my love for physical challenges are a crucial aspect. The small differences in the pictures hinge on the relation between what is inside or outside of the frames and what happens in the interstice. Against the linear scientific 'clock-time' stands the empiric time perception - fluid, layered, unpredictable, elastic. This contrast highlights the tension between objective and subjective experiences of time and what is real and unreal. So can you imagine what could happen in those 10 self-timer seconds?

Silent Symphony

Book, audio 2:08min 2023

A score book, a new way of visualising music by drawing. A pen attached to an instrument, a paper attached to the wall and a musician playing the instrument.

How does the relationship between musician and the audience change when the melodies disappear and only the visual traces and sounds of the instrument remain? What kind of interaction occurs between composer and musician when interpreting this new form of musical notation?

Scheef

Analogue prints, silkscreen, uv-prints on plexiglass, various sizes 2022

"Scheef" is the first chapter of “Conversations with my brother”. It explores dreams, family bonds, and growing up. My brother Stijn was the inspiration behind this project; for example, the title refers to his favorite song. I have depicted his aspirations and areas of interest in various ways.

Performance at Bac Art Lab Leuven, estimated time 20min, together with Lore Grimon, Valeria Macedo Martins and Joanna Carvalho 2024

21/10/2025 at Ready 2 Rebel 2025?!, an event from Avansa Oost-Brabant, dedicated to climate justice

I contributed to the development of Lore Grimon’s performance. “It is not going to fall. It stands firm. Nothing can break this. The system is strong, the elements are strong. Whatever you think you see, it will not collapse. It will remain standing. Look, see how solid it is? Each element only adds more security. There is no rist, there is no doubt. The system is strong, the elements are strong. It is not going to fall.”

While the audio confirms the stability of the structure and expresses confidence, the spectators witness an increasingly unstable physical tower that could collapse at any moment. This raises questions about the reliablitiy of language and expectations. Who do you trust – the artist or your own eyes?

Composition for a walker

Analogue prints and experiments, various sizes 2023

Leaving the chaotic daily life behind, entering a sphere where tranquillity and excitement intertwine, creating an intimate conversation between my body, camera and the earth.

The weight of my backpack is a gentle reminder of the adventure that lies ahead. My footsteps become the metronome, guiding me along the trail. The rhythm of my pulse creates a percussion beat and the tapping of a walking pole against the forest floor adds another layer to the composition. The sunlight filters through the tall trees, embracing me in its warmth. A soft breeze makes the leaves whisper. I pause for a second. A connection between my camera and the surroundings arises. The click becomes a part of nature’s symphony.

In the darkroom, I immerse myself in reliving the adventures that each image holds. Integrating the sudden coincidences on the negatives or paper in the prints, leaves room for imagination.
